White 4" Swimming Mullet by Gulp is one of our favorite baits aboard the Get Sum. After trying other baits, we learned that Gulp's swimming mullets out catch the others 5 to 1.
Unlike squid, the white swimming mullets do not lose their bright color or scent after a couple drifts in the water. We typically use them on a tandem jig head rig with 1/2oz jig heads; Sometimes by themselves sometimes mixed with a 5" swimming mullet. While chances are it will get eaten by a fat flounder, if you still have your swimming mullet at the end of your fishing trip, you can throw it back in your bucket of juice and save it for the next trip. While some people consider the price point a little high, we use them everyday and consider the extra expense well worth the results.

The Penn Battle II 3000 is our reel of choice for flounder fishing aboard the Get Sum.
It is a good all around reel. While our main intention is to catch flounder, this reel has also caught rays up to 30 lbs with no issues. The drag is very smooth and easy to adjust. It has a full metal body and withstands the daily use and abuse of a busy charter boat. The Penn Mariner II 12-20 6' spinning rods are a new addition to the Get Sum for the 2016 season. They are sensitive enough to feel the flounder bite, while sturdy enough to catch a rockfish. They come in several length options, but we chose the 6' rods for ease of storage. They are sold at an affordable price point, but maintain many of the features of a more expensive rod. So far we are very pleased with these rods, and we will update you all further into the season.
